Accessibility Statement
We are committed to making this website and our clinical services accessible to everyone who needs them, including people with disabilities.
Last updated: 2026. Roanoke Refuge is committed to ongoing accessibility improvements as the website grows and the program develops.
Our Commitment
Roanoke Refuge is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to people with disabilities, in alignment with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Accessible care begins with an accessible front door. We treat website accessibility as part of the clinical mission, not an afterthought.
Standards We Follow
We design and build this site to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium. These guidelines cover four core principles:
- Perceivable: content can be experienced through different senses, including text alternatives for images and sufficient color contrast.
- Operable: the site works with a keyboard alone, gives users enough time to read content, and avoids design patterns known to cause seizures.
- Understandable: text is readable, the interface behaves predictably, and forms help users avoid and correct mistakes.
- Robust: content works with current and future assistive technologies, including screen readers.
What We Have Done
- Semantic HTML structure (proper headings, landmarks, labels) for screen reader navigation.
- Color contrast ratios that meet WCAG AA on all primary text.
- Keyboard-accessible navigation, including the main menu and mobile menu.
- Descriptive link text and image alt attributes.
- Resizable text without breaking page layout.
- Plain-language drafting throughout, recognizing that people in active addiction or in family crisis often read at lower comprehension than they normally would.
Clinical Accessibility
The website is one part of access. Our outpatient program is designed to meet people across the accessibility spectrum:
- Physical accessibility at the facility — ADA-compliant access; specific facility details published once the lease is finalized.
- Reasonable accommodations coordinated through admissions for clients with specific clinical, sensory, mobility, or learning needs.
- Phone line answered 24/7 so a family member can call when the moment arrives, not only during business hours.
Reporting an Accessibility Issue
If you encounter a barrier on this website, or if you need a clinical accommodation, we want to hear from you. Reach our team through the contact page or call admissions. Include the page address, a description of the issue, the assistive technology you were using if applicable, and the best way to reach you back. We aim to respond within two business days.
Ongoing Work
Accessibility is not a one-time project. As we add content, photography, and features, we audit against WCAG 2.1 AA and welcome feedback from clients, families, and community members on what we can improve.
Accessible Care
If you can reach us, we can help.
Whether you need a different format for this information, an interpreter at intake, a telehealth option because in-person doesn't work for your situation, or accommodations we have not anticipated — start with a call. Access begins with the conversation.
